The Art of the Al Dente: A Guide to the Best Pasta in Valencia

The Art of the Al Dente: A Guide to the Best Pasta in Valencia

Today, we focus on the essential pillar of Italian cuisine: pasta. Creamy, tomato-based, with seafood, ricotta, pepper, egg yolks, pancetta, or ragu—there are dozens of varieties and hundreds of ways to prepare them. We have gathered them all here in this new guide.

1

L'Alquimista

Address: Carrer de Lluís de Santàngel, 1, L'Eixample, 46005 València

A small Italian restaurant in the heart of Ruzafa, where pasta is prepared according to classic Italian recipes in a homey atmosphere. Dishes here aren't served on fancy white plates but brought out in the very cookware they were prepared in. Imagine: fresh homemade pasta in a cream sauce with shaved white truffle; classic Italian beef tartare topped with a vibrant egg yolk; tender ravioli with ricotta and spinach; and homemade tiramisu—an item that consistently receives the highest praise.

Prices are mid-range; a dinner with wine and dessert will cost approximately €20-30 per person.

2

Osteria vino e cucina

Address: Carrer dels Tomasos, 20, L'Eixample, 46006 València

Also located in Ruzafa, this establishment serves what is arguably the best carbonara in the city, alongside one of the best tiramisus. The pasta is handmade, ensuring it is always fresh and cooked to perfect al dente.

Beyond carbonara, the seafood pasta is a must-try. For lovers of simple combinations, they offer a superb Cacio e Pepe—pasta with cheese and black pepper.

3

La Papardella

Address: C/ del Cobertís dels Brodadors, 5, Ciutat Vella, 46001 València

One of the most famous Italian restaurants in all of Valencia, preparing fresh pasta daily right in the city centre.

Their crown jewels are the three types of tortelloni pasta and their truffle-based dishes. If you have ever been to Perugia, Italy’s truffle capital, you will recognise that authentic flavour here. The pasta at La Papardella rivals the very best of Umbria.

The menu also features meat lasagna, beef carpaccio, and, for dessert, the Sicilian pistachio cannoli are highly recommended.

4

Osteria da Gianni

Address: Carrer del Comte d'Altea, 48, L'Eixample, 46005 València

This spot specialises in bucatini all’amatriciana and four-cheese gnocchi (which regulars particularly praise). They also serve truffle dishes, lasagna, and a variety of appetisers. The dessert selection is classically Italian: cannoli, tiramisu, Nutella-filled gnocco, and Stromboli cake.

It is a wonderful place for both friendly get-togethers and lively celebrations, with an average cost of €20-30 per person.

5

Latte e Farina Cucina Italiana

Address: Pl. Redona, 1, Ciutat Vella, 46001 València

Popular with both tourists and locals alike. The menu features classic pastas, eggplant parmigiana, and several types of ravioli (ricotta, tomato, or cream-based). Mushroom lovers should try the pasta with porcini mushrooms; a dinner here costs around €20 per person.

6

Trattoria Pizzeria Vecchia Roma

Address: C/ del Dr. Romagosa, 5, Ciutat Vella, 46002 València

For fans of rich flavours and seafood, they offer a great Amatriciana with pancetta. If you prefer creamier textures, go for the reliable carbonara or the pesto pasta.

7

Restaurante italiano — Pizzería — Ris8tto

Address: C/ de Ribera, 12, Ciutat Vella, 46002 València

Located in the heart of the city, this restaurant has been delighting diners for years. Visitors particularly highlight the four-cheese tagliatelle—a dream for those who love creamy combinations. Seafood pasta and other Italian classics are also well-represented.

Prices are quite affordable, around €20 per person for a full dinner including drinks.

8

La Vita e Bella

Address: Carrer d'en Llop, 4, Ciutat Vella, 46002 València

The menu covers all the bases: pasta, pizza, and appetisers. Among the pasta dishes, customers most frequently recommend the vegetable pappardelle puttanesca.

9

Mangiapane

Address: Carrer de Sueca, 61, L'Eixample, 46006 València

This place offers a fresh take on Italian classics: no white tablecloths or gold-rimmed plates here—everything is simple, delicious, and stylish.

While the restaurant specialises in pinsas (with over 10 varieties on the menu), the pasta options, though fewer, are worth your attention.

If you like pumpkin, we highly recommend the pumpkin lasagna. If that’s not your style, try the ricotta cannoli—tender, creamy, and only €14.
