The Ofrenda is one of the most emotional and highly anticipated events of Las Fallas. Over two days — March 17 and 18 — thousands of falleros and falleras in traditional costumes walk through the centre of Valencia to offer flowers to the Virgin Mary, the city’s patron saint. Entire families take part in the Ofrenda, dressing up even the youngest children. Thousands of spectators come to watch the procession — it is one of the most spectacular and moving events of Las Fallas. A photojournalist from La Cotorra attended the Ofrenda and shows what it looked like.

The carnations carried by participants become part of the enormous cloak of the Virgin Mary, which is assembled directly on Plaza de la Virgen. For many, this is the highlight of the entire festival.

As they pass by the Virgin to the sound of orchestras and applause, many spectators cannot hold back their tears.
