March is shaping up to be a busy one in Madrid, with a packed calendar that includes major concerts, an international art fair, stand-up comedy and exhibitions. La Cotorra rounds up what’s on in the Spanish capital this month — there’s something here for every taste.
The legendary composer whose music has defined countless films and video games is bringing his live show to Spain. A multiple Oscar, Golden Globe, Grammy and BAFTA winner and nominee, Zimmer will perform his most iconic works, including scores from The Lion King, Inception and Pirates of the Caribbean. In addition to Madrid, he will also perform in Valencia (26 March) and Barcelona (27 March).
“For me, every show is a new journey full of discovery. I want to surprise my fans and transport them into a world of sound they’ve never experienced before,” Hans Zimmer said.
The world-famous Canadian company Cirque du Soleil brings its show OVO to Madrid for several days. The production explores the adventures of a ladybird and the wider world of insects — how they live, fly and interact with one another.
One can expect striking visuals, spectacular acrobatics and a touching story set in a world unfamiliar to humans, where the sudden appearance of an egg sparks curiosity, symbolises new life and reveals both the beauty and chaos of the insect ecosystem.
International and Spanish productions will take centre stage at Teatralia, the International Festival of Performing Arts, which returns to Madrid for its 30th edition. This year it brings together 29 companies from 11 countries, presenting 30 performances.
The programme spans a wide range of genres, from circus and dance to sign-language theatre, object theatre, puppetry, live music, musical theatre and concert-style performances. Nine productions will be shown in Spain for the first time, with ten premiering in Madrid. Highlights include Pato, patito, inspired by Hans Christian Andersen’s The Ugly Duckling, a musical adaptation of Treasure Island, and a bold acrobatic reinterpretation of Swan Lake.
One of Spain’s biggest pop stars will perform four consecutive shows in the capital. The tour, titled LUX, shares its name with her 2025 album. In April, the singer heads to Barcelona, with further dates scheduled across France, Germany and the Netherlands.
Her music blends contemporary production with traditional flamenco influences. She rose to international fame in 2018 following the release of Malamente and became the first Spanish artist nominated for a Grammy. She has twice been named among Forbes’ most influential Spanish women and will also appear in the series Euphoria this year.
Tickets for the Madrid dates are currently sold out, but official resale options may become available through the artist’s website.
ARCOmadrid is Spain’s leading international contemporary art fair and marks its 45th anniversary in 2026. Curated sections by José Luis Blondet and Magali Arriola will explore possible visions of the future.
Last year, the fair attracted almost 100,000 visitors and featured more than 1,300 artists from dozens of countries.

A major retrospective of Danish symbolist painter Wilhelm Hammershøi is currently on display in Madrid. Celebrated during his lifetime, Hammershøi is known for his austere, silent interiors.
The exhibition explores the ambiguity of his work and its connections to other European artists, as well as its place within Danish art of the period. The subtitle, The Listening Eye, hints at the link between his painting and ideas of silence, calm and music.
The Ukrainian singer has quickly gained popularity and collaborated with several major artists. He brings his solo show to Madrid in March as part of a wider Spanish tour.
Other stops include Barcelona, Alicante, Valencia and Bilbao.
The Ukrainian pop star brings her new show to Madrid and Valencia. The production features fresh interpretations of her best-known songs. The show is directed by Oleh Bondarchuk and features dancers from Ukraine and musicians from Latvia. Additional performances are planned later in 2026.
The international light festival returns for its third edition, featuring works by 15 artists from around the world. Installations will transform familiar streets, squares and landmarks through the creative use of light.
The festival concludes with a small conference bringing together experts in art, architecture, design and digital culture.
The Ukrainian rock band arrives in Madrid as part of its European tour, with further dates in Barcelona and Valencia before returning to Ukraine.
Formed more than 25 years ago, the band has earned widespread recognition and numerous national awards.
The Reina Sofía Museum has unveiled a new presentation of its contemporary art collection, featuring around 400 works by more than 200 artists, many of which have never been shown before.
The exhibition occupies the fourth floor of the Sabatini building and is divided into 21 thematic sections with works of Pablo Picasso, Joan Miró, Richard Serra, Andy Warhol and others.

The orchestra performs under the baton of Daniel Raiskin, with a programme including works by Smetana, Mussorgsky, Borodin and Jesús Rueda.
The concert also features pianist and composer Noelia Rodiles and bass-baritone Marko Mimica.
