Hummus
EUR 1 / 240 g
What would you say if we told you that, for just over EUR 20, you can put together a basket of nine genuinely top-quality products at Mercadona? If your answer is “Tell us immediately”, we are ready. La Cotorra has been studying Mercadona’s range for years and is happy to share its own price-to-quality favourites.
Hummus
EUR 1 / 240 g

You can make it yourself, of course, but it will not be cheaper. Fresh and tasty hummus, perfect as a dip for chopped vegetables or a spread for bread, costs just one euro. The ingredients are classic: chickpeas, sunflower oil, tahini (a powerful source of calcium), lemon juice, salt and garlic. There are preservatives, but almost all of them are natural: citric and lactic acids, plus potassium sorbate.
Greek yoghurt
EUR 2.30 / 1 kg

A universal base for roughly a thousand dishes, a solid substitute for sour cream and a foundation for making homemade curd. And simply a thick, delicious natural yoghurt in its own right.
Seafood salpicón
EUR 4.76 / 325 g
This traditional Spanish appetiser is a lifesaver when “guests are at the door”. It contains 12 g of protein, making it a filling quick snack. Salpicón is a ready-made seafood salad with mussels, octopus, prawns and surimi (crab sticks), bell pepper and cucumber. The dressing — a vinaigrette with wine vinegar and lemon — has a pleasant, balanced flavour and complements the dish well. The downside: it does contain preservatives.
Homestyle tomato sauce
EUR 2 / 560 g

“Fried tomatoes” is a sweet, thick, and aromatic tomato sauce made in a homestyle manner. A ready base for pasta and a universal solution whenever you need a good tomato sauce. The downside is added sugar — but we all understand that this is what makes it taste better.
Kefir
EUR 1.20 / 500 g

Liquid nostalgia of Soviet people in a plastic cup, and also the base for cold soups and pancakes. Kefir, alongside kombucha, is enjoying a new wave of popularity: fermented foods are said to benefit gut microbiota — something bloggers and influencers keep reminding us of at every turn.
Casa Juncal olive oil
EUR 4.95 / 500 ml

Extra virgin olive oil obtained by mechanical cold extraction. A top-quality oil made from Picual olives grown in Spain’s famous olive groves in Jaén. Oil from these lands was supplied to the Roman Empire 2,500 years ago. In terms of price-to-quality ratio, you will not find anything better in supermarkets.
Mixed seeds
EUR 1.46 / 200 g

Raw shelled sunflower seeds, flaxseed, sesame, chia and pumpkin seeds — a source of fatty acids, minerals and fibre. Simply add them to any salad, porridge or Greek yoghurt, and you have a healthy breakfast or lunch.
Peanut flour
EUR 2.75 / 200 g

A new addition to the +Proteínas range, which already includes protein desserts and ice cream. Peanut flour enriched with protein, with fat content reduced by 70 per cent. It is a protein boost for smoothies and yoghurts, allowing you to add both protein and nutty flavour to your diet. One heaped tablespoon contains 14 g of protein and 3 g of sugar.
EUR 6.19 / 370 g

Tostado Viejo, made from a blend of cow’s, sheep’s and goat’s milk, is considered one of the best cheeses in the world. It won a gold medal at the World Cheese Awards in 2021. There is also a younger champion — Crema de Queso Camambert, a 2024 medallist, priced at just EUR 1.80. The experts have spoken — now it is your turn to try.
