La Cotorra carried out a full-scale sugar audit of the city, analysing hundreds of venues and reviews, and selected 10 places where cakes and pastries are truly worth your attention.
You won’t find bakeries in this list — only pastry shops and pâtisseries.

The owner of this pastry shop is Salvador Pla, who was named World’s Best Pastry Chef in 2018. It’s honestly hard to know where to begin — one glance at Monpla’s display case and your eyes will dart in every direction.
Here, they create bespoke cakes to order, bake fresh bread whose aroma could easily outperform any diffuser, and craft signature pastries using only natural, top-quality ingredients. You’ll also find truffle ice cream, lollipops, chocolate, and nougat with what feels like every nut known to humankind. Listing all the flavours on offer at Monpla would take more than one article.
What absolutely deserves a special mention is their Christmas panettone. If you still think Italian panettone is no different from a traditional Easter cake, Monpla is the place to change your mind.
Be prepared: during the short panettone season, they sell out fast — very fast. But judging by hundreds of reviews, their signature Pla pel mon is worth both the queues and the price (yes, prices here are on the steeper side).
For coffee, however, you’re better off heading to one of the specialty cafés that La Cotorra has already covered.

Sukar recently opened its second pastry shop in Valencia (address above). There is also another location right in the city centre at C/ de la Pau, 16.
Which one you visit doesn’t really matter — both offer a wide enough selection of pastries and desserts to satisfy any gourmet. Sukar’s popularity among locals comes largely from their signature pistachio croissants, combining flaky, melting pastry with the bold flavour of one of the world’s favourite nuts. These are not classic French croissants with ruler-straight layers and perfect symmetry. Sukar adds a touch of deliberate imperfection to refined French elegance.
Beyond croissants and baked goods, you will find a vibrant selection of pastries, cakes and individual desserts. The staff know everything about everything — ask for recommendations if you can’t decide.
Prices are mid-range: from €2 for basic croissants to €5.50 for the more elaborate ones. The pâtisserie selection changes regularly, and one major (and rather rare) advantage is that Sukar sells panettone all year round. They also deliver via Glovo.

This is one of those cases where you absolutely should judge a book by its cover — or rather, by its name. Passage à Paris is literally a slice of the French capital near the Ruzafa market. Everything here speaks of old Paris: from the menu to the walls painted a noble emerald green.
You’ll find classic and almond croissants (the latter are no exaggeration forearm-sized), simple yet beloved Pain Au Chocolat, a variety of tarts, lemon tartlets (both classic and topped with seasonal berries), and of course macarons in every imaginable colour, flavour and size. In addition to sweet pastries, they also serve classic quiches — with cheese, salmon, or chicken and mushrooms.
Prices are a pleasant surprise. That giant almond croissant? Just €2.50.

This pastry shop is already something of a legend — not only in Valencia, but across Spain. The founders developed the entire concept long before opening their first physical shop (which, incidentally, was not Pepina Pastel but Alzira).
They were the first to offer nationwide dessert delivery in Spain, which quickly earned them recognition and loyal customers far beyond a single city or region.
Today, Pepina Pastel holds an excellent rating with over 1,500 reviews — achieved in less than two years since opening in December 2023.
The menu is impressive: more than 19 types of cake, with the most expensive being their signature cheesecakes (brownie and pistachio). The pistachio one is particularly worth trying — no neon-green colour or artificial aroma here; pistachio genuinely takes centre stage. Prices are €36 for a whole cake or €4.80 per slice (the standard price for any cake portion).
They also offer mini bento cakes, handmade chocolates, tarts, tartlets and churros.

True professionals when it comes to custom-made desserts. Want a cake decorated with rice-paper flowers? No problem. A Mario-themed cake for your child’s fifth birthday? Done. Delivery to a specific place at a specific time, handling all the logistics along the way? This is the place.

David Esteve is the eponymous pastry shop of chef David Esteve, one of Spain’s leading pastry chefs, particularly renowned for panettone.
Located in the city centre, just steps from Jungle Bar, Esteve has competed — and won — national panettone competitions.
The display case resembles a museum exhibition rather than a counter: no flashy colours, only natural ingredients and delicate cream piped between fresh galettes. The signature here is maretes, a pastry reminiscent of the Mallorcan ensaïmada — a spiral-shaped yeast bun. Made using a secret in-house recipe, it even goes by a different name. Vegans, vegetarians and pescatarians should ask whether animal fats are used, as in traditional ensaïmadas.
The shop also participates in Too Good To Go, where surplus food is sold at reduced prices — though boxes sell out quickly.

Although positioned as a specialty coffee shop, Butter made this list for a reason: it serves some of the best cookies in the city — a title earned remarkably fast, considering it opened less than six months ago. Everything here — baked goods, food and coffee — is strictly gluten-free and lactose-free.
The cookie selection is genuinely impressive: 12 varieties, including lemon pie with white chocolate, meringue and lemon curd (our favourite), Raffaello-style cookies with white chocolate, coconut and almonds, and a much-praised New York cheesecake cookie with soft dough, cream cheese and berry filling.
Classic cheesecake cookies cost €3.50 each.

Don’t be put off by the not-quite-perfect Google rating (4.3) — it should be viewed in context, with over 5,000 reviews. With that level of popularity, pleasing everyone is simply impossible.
DDL boasts one of the largest dessert selections in Valencia: cakes, tartlets, tarts, pastries, pies, doughnuts — and more. Fillings cater to every taste. Prefer something fresh and tangy? Go for seasonal berry tartlets. Craving intense sweetness? Salted caramel tarts, chocolate and nuts are at your disposal — and if that’s still not enough, wash it down with a milkshake. There’s also strawberry tart with pistachio cream, or lighter options like bowls with homemade jam, Greek yoghurt and seasonal berries. Fans of refined French classics should try the macarons or the meringue roll.
In addition to desserts, DDL serves daily brunches: coffee, fresh juice, yoghurt, a sweet croissant and a savoury brioche — all for €9.50.
The downsides are predictable given its popularity: occasional service issues, tables not always cleared promptly (especially on the terrace, which attracts birds), and queues. Still, most visitors agree — it’s worth it.

This particular location opened fairly recently and is smaller and more intimate — affectionately dubbed “the little blackbird” by its founders. Their main venue is at C/ de la Reina Na Maria, 7, in L’Eixample.
Desserts are equally excellent at both locations: rich brownies with dark chocolate and nuts, almond polenta with mascarpone and peaches, homemade raspberry-and-pistachio bars, cookies, croissants, and their now-legendary cinnamon rolls. Prices are mid-range, and a real bonus is that you can pair everything with genuinely good coffee.

No list would be complete without Valencia’s best cheesecakes. This place specialises exclusively in them — but don’t dismiss it if New York cheesecake isn’t your favourite dessert.
They offer six varieties: Cookies & Cheese (with cocoa, homemade cookies and cream cheese), the classic (delicate creaminess with crunchy biscuit base), double-cheese cheesecake, Belgian chocolate, pistachio, and Lotus (with the famous biscuit).
Great attention is paid to original recipes and ingredient quality. Cheesecakes cannot be customised, and there are no lactose-free or gluten-free options — only what’s currently on the menu.
You can order by the slice or whole cakes for 2–3, 6–8 or 10–12 people. Prices range from €12 to €38.
