The outlet GastroActitud, with the support of the company Makro, has published a new gastronomic guide, "The 100 Best Restaurants Under 100 Euros." The list includes establishments from all over the country where good cuisine is combined with reasonable prices. It was compiled by nine experts from the gastronomy industry, led by the well-known critic José Carlos Capel — founder of Madrid Fusión. First the restaurants were selected by region, then distributed into categories and voted on.
Valencian cuisine is represented in several categories at once.
Nou Manolín in Alicante won among the bar establishments. The restaurant opened back in 1971 and is famous for the impeccable quality of its products. Fish and seafood come here straight from the markets of Santa Pola and Dénia. The average check is around 50 euros per person.
El Cranc in the town of Altea became the best beach establishment. The restaurant opened as a simple eatery in 1982, and today it's one of the most popular on the Mediterranean coast. The average check is around 37 euros.
Las Bairetas in Chiva won in the "Rice Dishes" category. The restaurant is famous for its enormous paella pan, which you can see with your own eyes, and for paella cooked over a wood fire. The average check is around 45 euros. In this same category, two more Valencian establishments made the top — Casa Carmela in Valencia and Rioja in Benisanó, though first place did not go to them.
Valencian restaurants also stood out in other categories: Raussell in Valencia — "Traditional Restaurants," Ausiàs in Pedreguer — "Contemporary Cuisine," Nozomi in Valencia — "World Cuisine."
