It’s the perfect time to think about getting in shape and start preparing for summer — especially as it arrives much earlier in Valencia. But here’s the problem: the city has countless gyms. How do you choose between VivaGym and Basic-Fit, and why does Fitness Park charge more? And if you want a pool and a SPA — where should you go, and how much will it cost? Most importantly, how do you avoid getting caught out when signing a contract, as the manager quickly runs through terms like matrícula, permanencia and the conditions for darse de baja? La Cotorra has analysed Valencia’s fitness club market and gathered all the up-to-date information to help you make the right choice.
First, let’s get the terminology straight. These are the words and expressions worth knowing before you sign a contract:
Matrícula — a one-off registration fee. It may be waived, or it can be as high as €60.
Cuota — usually a monthly payment, but some centres charge every 28 days, creating an extra 13th payment each year and increasing the effective monthly cost.
Permanencia — the minimum commitment period in the contract, which can be up to two years. This means you’re obliged to pay the full amount until the end of the agreement, and you can usually only break it in cases of serious health issues or a move — both of which you may also need to prove with documentation. As a rule, permanencia comes with discounts and special offers.
Darse de baja — the cancellation process. Unfortunately, in Spain — as you may have noticed — it’s often not enough to simply decide you want to stop using a service. Each company sets its own conditions for how you can cancel. There’s often a notice period (preaviso): for some it’s 60 days, for others it’s seven days before the next billing cycle, while some will allow you to cancel on the final day of the current month.
Broadly speaking, clubs can be divided into four categories: budget, mid-range, premium with pool and SPA, and municipal multi-sport centres.
This segment includes VivaGym, Synergym, Basic-Fit and Planet Fitness. These chains offer the lowest prices, fairly basic weights and cardio areas, plus group classes. VivaGym and Basic-Fit have the biggest footprint in the city, Synergym can boast 150 hours of group classes — more than the others — and Planet Fitness has the cheapest memberships.
There are drawbacks, too: Synergym is often packed at peak times, as is VivaGym, where broken machines can take a while to be fixed. Basic-Fit closes at 21:00 on weekends, and Planet Fitness only entered the city recently — the chain currently has just one club within Valencia itself. It’s worth checking reviews for each specific gym on Google Maps, because equipment condition, staff attentiveness and how crowded it gets can vary significantly even within the same brand.
Number of clubs within the city: 12 (Arena, Benlloch, Campanar, Clariano, Cánovas, Parque Central, Patraix, Pio XII, Platero, Tres Forques, Troya and Uruguay, plus suburbs: Eliana, Godella).
Prices
€29.90/month — Cuota One
€32.90/month — Cuota FLEX
€32.90/month — Cuota PRIME
What affects the price: pricier memberships let you book group classes 36 or 48 hours in advance, which can be useful, as spaces in popular classes often run out before it’s the basic members’ turn. The mid and top tiers also allow you to train at different clubs and bring friends to work out up to 15 times a month, from Friday to Sunday.
Permanencia y Matrícula
Matrícula: at the time of writing, no fee is being charged, but it has reached €29 at times during the year.
Permanencia: none.

Prices

€27.99/month — PF Black Card
What affects the price
The Classic membership gives access only to your “home” club. The premium plan gives access to any club in the chain worldwide, lets you bring one guest for free an unlimited number of times, includes use of massage chairs and hydro-massage, and offers discounts on drinks.
Permanencia y Matrícula
Matrícula: €10 at the time of writing.
Permanencia: none, but an additional annual fee (cuota anual) may apply — you should check the contract terms carefully at the time you sign.
Membership cancellation terms
You must submit a cancellation notice at reception or via the website by the 20th of the current month to avoid being charged for the next one. Online cancellation in Spain still doesn’t work in every club, so it’s best to confirm in person.
This category includes the French chains Fitness Park, On Air Fitness and L'Orange Bleue, as well as Spanish options such as Activa Club and Suma Fitness Club. These gyms offer premium equipment (Technogym, Eleiko, Hammer Strength), longer opening hours and extra services that go beyond a straightforward gym floor.
Fitness Park is priced similarly to the upper end of the budget segment on its basic plan, but its top-tier Ultimate membership — with access to Burning Park, Fight Park and hydro-massage — makes it a true mid-range contender. The chain also offers the broadest timetable (6:00–1:00) and HIIT classes.
On Air Fitness stands out with its “sport + music” concept, featuring DJs spinning tracks in the gym, an industrial look, and a dedicated FitGirls zone for women.
L'Orange Bleue focuses less on size or design and more on personal coaching and exclusive YAKO group programmes in a more intimate setting.
Activa Club could be described as “premium for the people”, thanks to its water facilities. It’s the only chain on this list offering proper sports pools (Nou Mestalla) and sizeable thermal SPA complexes with saunas and jacuzzis (Aqua), available at mid-range prices.
A special mention goes to Valencia’s unique Suma Fitness, which sits between the public and private worlds. Its flagship within the city — Piscina Valencia by Alameda — is formally a municipal facility, but in terms of finishes and service (including a terrace jacuzzi) it easily rivals many premium gyms. Their Suma Patacona club on the beach in Alboraya, five minutes from the city, is also hugely popular — a fully private-style club with a pool, SPA and sea views.
As for the downsides:
Number of clubs within the city: 8 (Ruzafa, Aqua, Calixto, Marítim, Campanar, El Saler, Puerto plus the suburb of Alfafar).
Prices
With a contract that commits you to paying for all 52 weeks:
€27/4 weeks — Classic
€47/4 weeks — Ultimate
If you pay for a full year up front, Classic works out at €341 and Ultimate at €581.
What affects the price
The basic plan includes access to all clubs in the chain and video workouts. The advanced plan adds hydro-massage, instructor-led classes, a boxing ring and other extras.
Permanencia y Matrícula
Permanencia: some plans come with a 52-week commitment.
Matrícula: €30–€50 depending on the plan.
Membership cancellation terms
It’s worth flagging straight away that this chain has a 1.6/5 rating on TrustPilot, with 85% of reviews at one star, largely due to unclear or confusing cancellation rules.
Bear in mind that for plans without a commitment, the minimum notice period is four weeks — and because payments are every 28 days, that effectively guarantees you’ll make at least one more payment.
There are also plenty of reviews mentioning that the website throws up errors when people try to cancel online and that emails get “lost”, so the safest option is to do it in person at reception.
Number of clubs within the city: 3 (Les Arts, Nuevo Centro, Ruzafa)
Prices
Prices on the website are listed per week, but, as with Fitness Park, are charged every four weeks:
€7.99/week = €31.96/4 weeks — Essential
€9.99/week = €39.96/4 weeks — Original
€10.99/week = €43.96/4 weeks — Ultra
What affects the price
The basic plan gives unlimited access to all three clubs; the mid plan adds sports drinks, a vibration platform aimed at fat loss, plus a 3D body scan and high-precision body composition analysis; and the top plan suits those who want one membership to be used by two people, training at different times.
Permanencia y Matrícula
Permanencia: none
Matrícula: €30 + a €10 annual fee
Membership cancellation terms
You must give 28 days’ notice, which means you’ll make one more payment — but the process itself is clear.
Number of clubs within the city: 2 (Zaidía and Extramuros).
Prices
Payments here are also taken every four weeks:
Flex contracts, with no annual commitment:
€49.90/4 weeks
With a one-year commitment:
€39.90/4 weeks
With a two-year commitment:
€34.90/4 weeks
Students get a €5 discount off the base four-week price on plans with commitments.
Permanencia y Matrícula
Permanencia: plans with commitments are available.
Matrícula: €60 standard, and €40 for students.
Membership cancellation terms
This chain requires the longest cancellation notice: 60 days, and you can only cancel in person at your gym. Also note that one- and two-year agreements automatically renew for the same term if you don’t cancel in time.
Number of clubs within the city: 3 (flagship Nou Mestalla with pool and SPA, Germanías, Aqua with SPA zone) + suburbs (Mislata, Torrent).
Prices
The club often sells membership in packages, so official rates apply after the promotional period ends:
€36.90/4 weeks — Cuota Estándar (Gym only)
€42.90/4 weeks — Cuota Premium (Includes pool and SPA)
Permanencia y Matrícula
Matrícula: at the time of writing, there’s no fee, but you must buy a €20 wristband for entry. If you cancel, you don’t get this money back.
Permanencia: none
Membership cancellation terms
You must notify the club in writing by the 23rd of the current month to avoid paying for the next one.
Number of venues: 1 within the city (Piscina Valencia) + 2 popular locations in the nearby suburbs (Patacona, Alfafar).
Piscina Valencia is a municipal centre managed by SUMA — we’ll cover it below — while the prices for the other two clubs are as follows:
SUMA Alfafar
€49.95/month — Individual (Open access).
€39.95/month — Mañanas (Entry until 15:00)
€65.90/month — Familiar (Couple or family — good value)
SUMA Patacona
€59.95/month — Individual.
€42.00/month — Mañanas (until 14:00)
€79.90/month — Familiar (Whole family)
What affects the price
The membership price — especially at Patacona and Alfafar — includes access to excellent SPA areas (pool, jacuzzi, sauna, Turkish bath) and group classes. Padel courts are paid separately, but members get special rates.
Permanencia y Matrícula
Matrícula: standard price is €25–€30.
Permanencia: usually none, but there are sometimes promo rates with a 3–6 month commitment.
Membership cancellation terms
You must notify the club by the 20th of the current month to avoid being charged for the next one. You can do this via your online account (Área de Socio) or in person at reception.
This segment includes Atalanta Sport Club, Tyris Spa + Fitness and, as the most budget-friendly option for a gym with pool and SPA facilities, Olympia Spa & Fitness. Here the focus shifts from simply “building muscle” to a wellness concept. You’re paying not just for access to equipment, but for comfort, status, fewer queues and an expanded service offering: towels provided, toiletries in the showers, relaxation areas.
Olympia Spa & Fitness, located within a hotel, offers access to a huge hydrotherapy zone, squash courts and hotel-level service at the lower end of premium pricing. Even so, despite the strong service, some may be put off by a 2000s-style interior and its edge-of-city location in Alboraya.
Atalanta Sport Club, especially the Ronda Norte location, feels like a resort in the city: outdoor pools with a retractable roof, plus multiple padel courts.
Tyris Spa + Fitness puts recovery front and centre: it’s a more intimate club with the best SPA area in the centre and a calm, mature crowd.
Location: Alboraya
Prices
€59/month — Cuota Mensual
€528/year (€44/month) — Cuota Anual
There are also plans billed quarterly, half-yearly or every two years.
What affects the price
The main way to save is to pay for a year or two in advance. Every plan includes full access to the gym and pool, plus special pricing for services in the extensive hydrotherapy area, which is the club’s key selling point. Squash is paid separately.
Permanencia y Matrícula
Matrícula: at the time of writing, no fee is being charged.
Permanencia: none with monthly payments; with the annual plan you must pay the full amount up front.
Membership cancellation terms: with monthly payments, you need to notify the club by the 20th of the current month. If you’ve paid a discounted annual fee up front, getting money back for early cancellation is practically impossible — except in cases of serious medical issues or a documented move to another region.
Location: the Cánovas/Ruzafa area.
Prices
Official membership prices aren’t published, but the structure of the plans is known.
Abonado Fin de Semana: access only on Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays.
Abonado Fitness: standard access all week.
Abonado Oro: upgraded access including a towel, locker and laundry services.
Abonado VIP: top package, including massages, personal training and priority service. There’s also a Mantenimiento option (four visits per month) for those who go to the gym infrequently.
What affects the price
Every plan includes access to the centre’s main draw, the Circuito SPA: pool, sauna, thermal rooms, jacuzzi and group classes. Oro and VIP plans add an “all-inclusive” level of service. According to online reviews, SPA entry without membership costs: €22 for a morning session and €30 in the evening.
Permanencia y Matrícula
These details should be confirmed directly with the fitness centre.
Membership cancellation terms
You must notify the administration in person at reception by the 20th of the month prior to cancellation.
Number of clubs within the city: 2 (Ronda Norte — resort-style with an outdoor pool; Ramón Asensio — a city format in the Mestalla area; there’s also a smaller Joaquín Costa gym).
Prices
The club does not publish them openly.
The monthly fee includes access to all three centres, a fitness assessment, a personalised training plan, a nutrition plan and monthly progress checks. The only additional charges are for padel court hire and certain specialist services.
Permanencia y Matrícula
These details should be confirmed directly with the fitness centre.

Written notice is required; timeframes should be checked with staff at reception.
If “municipal gym” makes you picture a basement space with broken equipment and zero comfort — forget it. In Valencia it works differently.
The city builds new, modern facilities and contracts major private fitness operators to run them: Supera, Suma, Forus or Enjoy Wellness. The result: you can get private-club-level service — pools, saunas, jacuzzis and Technogym equipment — but at prices well below private clubs, thanks to strict city regulation.
This isn’t a single chain: when you buy a membership, you’re tied to one specific location. These centres are great value for families, so they’re often absolutely packed in the evenings, and the quality of equipment and service can vary a lot from one site to another. You’ll also likely need local registration (empadronamiento) to buy a membership. So before you sign up, try a trial session at the time you plan to train and see it for yourself.
Below are some of the most popular centres in Valencia:
Opened at the end of 2024. New facilities and equipment, a huge sports hall, and a 30-metre pool. For now it’s run in a hybrid model together with the Fundación Deportiva Municipal de Valencia, so prices are particularly affordable.
Located inside the historic market building, it has a 50-metre pool — a real rarity — plus an excellent SPA area.
The jewel in the crown here is a terrace jacuzzi and spinning sessions with a cinema screen. It’s often described as the most “premium” of the municipal centres.
There’s an outdoor pool for summer and an indoor one for winter. A favourite with students.
Prices
Prices can vary depending on the operator, but the general range is roughly:
Matrícula: ~€45–€65, though there are sometimes promotions with matrícula €0 if you pay for six months up front.
Morning plan (Mañanas): ~€27/month
Standard (Individual): ~€42/month
Family plan (Abono Familiar): ~€55–€65/month
Choosing a gym in Valencia is always a compromise between location, price and сrowdedness. So never sign a contract without doing a trial session at the exact hours you plan to train. Photos on a website can look great, but a queue of five people for the bench press or the back-extension machine can kill your motivation instantly.
