In Valencia, the average price of the so-called menú del día — typically including a starter and a main, a drink, bread and dessert — is around €15. But in the nearby town of Manises, there’s a bar where you can get the whole lot for just €6.
It’s called Hogar del Trabajador (Carrer Aviació, 48). For €6, diners can choose from 14 dishes: six starter options and eight mains. The price also includes a drink, bread and dessert. Even in Spain’s cheapest regions, the average price of a set lunch is above €13.
The place is popular among locals and people working in the area. In addition to the set lunch, it also offers a morning breakfast for €1.80 and almuerzo (a late Spanish breakfast or early lunch with a sandwich, a drink and coffee) for €5.
The bar is open Monday to Friday from 6:15 am to 7:00 pm, and is closed at weekends. You can sit either inside or out on the terrace.
