What series to watch in 2026?

2026 promises to be a year full of sound releases in the world of TV series, from the revival of the legendary Scrubs, the continuation of Euphoria, and the return of Coach Ted Lasso, to new works about the young Sherlock Holmes and an alternative version of Spider-Man in a noir style. La Cotorra tells us what TV series fans expect this year.

The Pitt

Season 2, 15 episodes

The second season of the medical series “The Pitt”, often referred to as a worthy successor to “ER”, has already been out, but the episodes are being released gradually, and the series will be fully available only in April. Recently, it received a “Golden Globe” as Best Television Series, and before that, 13 nominations and five wins at the “Emmy” awards. Before the release of the first episode of the second season, the creators of the series announced that it had already been renewed for a third season.

“The Pitt” tells about the everyday life of employees of the emergency department in a Pittsburgh hospital, and the main role of Dr Michael “Robby” Rabinovich is played by Noah Wyle (“ER”, “Falling Skies”). The series is positioned as a study of the problems that American medics face at work.

The Night Manager

Season 2, 6 episodes

The first season of the British spy thriller “The Night Manager” starring Tom Hiddleston (Loki in Marvel films), Hugh Laurie (“House”), Olivia Colman (“The Favourite”), Elizabeth Debicki (“Tenet”) and Tom Hollander (“Pirates of the Caribbean”, “Bohemian Rhapsody”) was released 10 years ago. The first two episodes were shown at the Berlin Film Festival.

The plot: the administrator of a Cairo hotel is recruited by an intelligence officer to infiltrate the inner circle of a major businessman who is suspected of creating an international arms trafficking syndicate. In the new season, the main character, Jonathan Pine, lives in London and works in MI6, observing hotel guests. In this way,  he follows the trail of another arms dealer, this time from Colombia.

A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms

This is an HBO spin-off of “Game of Thrones” based on George Martin’s series of novellas. Its plot unfolds one hundred years before the events of “Game of Thrones”. Duncan the Tall (Peter Claffey) and his squire Egg (Dexter Sol Ansell), who will become King Aegon V Targaryen, travel across the fictional continent of Westeros. At this time, the Targaryen dynasty sits on the Iron Throne, and memories of the last dragon are still fresh.

The first season of “Shrinking”, starring the star of “Indiana Jones”, Harrison Ford and the series writer Jason Segel (“How I Met Your Mother”) was released in 2023, telling about a psychotherapist who has lost his wife, cannot cope with grief and begins to snap at patients. He starts telling them what he really thinks, and unexpectedly,  this method brings results and changes his own life.

“I publicly stated that the first season is about grief, the second — about forgiveness, and the third — about moving forward,” said writer Lawrence Bill in 2024.

In the new season, the characters will continue their psychotherapeutic practice. In addition to Ford and Segel, Brett Goldstein (“Ted Lasso”) and Cobie Smulders (“How I Met Your Mother”) return to their roles. Among the new performers are Jeff Daniels (“Dumb and Dumber”) and Michael J. Fox (“Back to the Future”).

Bridgerton

The first four episodes of the fourth season of the historical romantic series “Bridgerton” will be released on 29 January, with another four episodes arriving on 26 February. The series is based on the books by American writer Julia Quinn. Each season is devoted to one of the eight siblings in the family. In the fourth season, the main character will be the aspiring artist Benedict (Luke Thompson), who at Lady Bridgerton’s famous masquerade ball meets a mysterious young woman, and later encounters a maid named Sophie Baek (Yerin Ha), not knowing that they are the same person.

Scrubs

This winter, after 15 years since the last appearance, a new season of the series will be released. Zach Braff, Donald Faison and Sarah Chalke will return to their roles.

After many years apart, best friends J.D. and Turk reunite at Sacred Heart Hospital, where they will face modern medical challenges while preserving their legendary friendship.

The creators promise to combine two ideas: the revival of the original series with its characters after a decade and a half, and a reboot of the show with new interns.

After Guy Ritchie directed two films about Sherlock Holmes and Dr Watson starring Robert Downey Jr and Jude Law, he has returned to the story of the legendary detective. This time, the series will be based on Andy Lane’s series of novels “Young Sherlock Holmes”. It shows 19-year-old Sherlock, anarchic and undisciplined. He will have to solve his first case and expose an international conspiracy. The main role will be played by Hero Fiennes Tiffin (“After”).

The series will also feature Colin Firth (Sir Bucephalus Hodge), Donal Finn (James Moriarty), Joseph Fiennes (Silas Holmes), Natasha McElhone (Cordelia Holmes) and Zine Tseng (Princess Gulun Shou’an).

In “The Boys”, superheroes have become villains: they abuse their powers to achieve selfish goals and enjoy public recognition like real pop stars. The most famous team of superheroes is led by Homelander (Antony Starr), opposed by a team of “ordinary people” headed by Billy Butcher (Karl Urban).

Throughout the previous seasons, "the boys" have tried to stop the superheroes, and the fifth season will put an end to their conflict. The creators promise to show “their version of the apocalypse" , that will forever change the world depicted in the series.

Euphoria

“This is the best season so far, it will be unforgettable,” said the creator of the series, Sam Levinson. In the new season, the characters will graduate from school and face adult problems.

The events of the season unfold five years after the finale of the second season. Rue (Zendaya) is trying to pay off debts in Mexico, Cassie (Sydney Sweeney) and Nate (Jacob Elordi) live together in the suburbs, Maddy (Alexa Demie) leaves for Hollywood and gets a job at a talent agency, and Jules (Hunter Schafer) studies at art school.

HBO CEO Casey Bloys said that the third season of the fantasy series “House of the Dragon”, a prequel to “Game of Thrones”, will likely be released in June this year. The series is based on George R. R. Martin’s book “Fire & Blood” and tells about the Targaryen civil war that took place about two centuries before the events of “Game of Thrones”.

According to HBO’s head of drama, Francesca Orsi, the plot of the new part will revolve around the Battle of the Gullet — one of the largest battles in the world of “Game of Thrones”. It is known that “House of the Dragon” will be renewed for a fourth season, which is expected to be released in 2028 and will be the last.

Netflix will release a continuation of the Spanish-language series based on the bestselling novel by Colombian writer Gabriel García Márquez, “One Hundred Years of Solitude”. Its events unfold in the fictional town of Macondo, where seven generations of the Buendía family, existing outside of time, experience love, oblivion and the inevitability of their fate.

“Hard times are coming to Macondo. The world is becoming increasingly difficult to preserve as the curse of Úrsula Iguarán becomes reality,”  said Netflix in the announcement.

There is not yet an official release date for the fifth season of Christopher Storer’s series “The Bear”, which tells the story of Carmy Berzatto (Jeremy Allen White), who is forced to return to Chicago. The press has reported that filming was in question due to the busy schedules of the key cast members. Nevertheless, it is expected to be released this year (or, at the very latest, next). In the new season, Carmy, Sydney (Ayo Edebiri) and Richie (Ebon Moss-Bachrach) will attempt to take their restaurant to the next level. John Landgraf, president of FX, has promised that the series will continue as a “magnificent story”.

Ted Lasso

At some point this year — the exact date remains unknown — the beloved series about irrepressibly optimistic American football coach Ted Lasso (Jason Sudeikis) will return to the screens. The previous season ended with Lasso leaving England to be closer to his family. In the new episodes, he will return to work at AFC Richmond and take charge of a women’s second-division team. “Throughout the season, Ted and the team learn to act without overthinking and to take risks like never before,” the official statement states.

“Vision Quest” is a part of Phase Six of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Its central character, the android Vision (Paul Bettany), was killed in the battle with Thanos in “Avengers: Infinity War”, but later reappeared in the series “WandaVision” and was resurrected in its finale in the form of the White Vision. He now remembers nothing of his past.

He will have to rebuild his memory and find a new place in the world, while also confronting Ultron (James Spader) — the creature made by Tony Stark (also known as Iron Man, played by Robert Downey Jr.)

Blade Runner 2099

An exact release date for “Blade Runner 2099” has not been announced, but it is expected to come out this year. The plot unfolds 50 years after the events of Denis Villeneuve’s “Blade Runner 2049”, starring Ryan Gosling and Harrison Ford, while also drawing on the original 1982 film. The creators promise a series is “provocative” yet “true to the spirit of its predecessors”.

The series, which is intended to serve as a bridge between the fourth and fifth parts of the John Wick franchise starring Keanu Reeves, currently has neither a release date nor a confirmed episode number. It is not even clear whether Reeves himself will appear: at the end of the most recent film, his character seemingly died, and his actions left the High Table — the global criminal elite made up of 12 crime families — in chaos

 The Studio

There is no confirmed release date yet, as filming on the second season has only just begun. The first season told about producer Matt Remick, played by Seth Rogen, who received a long-awaited promotion to head Continental Studios. His first major project in the role was an expensive blockbuster on which his superiors pinned great hopes. To secure strong box-office returns and earn the chance to pursue more auteur-driven cinema, Remick must deliver a hit.

The first season of “The Studio” recently won a Golden Globe for Best Television Series – Musical or Comedy. The creators have promised that real-life events connected to the ceremony will feature in the second season.

Spider-Noir

The series tells the story of Ben Reilly, played by Nicolas Cage, an ageing private detective in New York during the 1930s. He is forced to confront his former life as the city’s only superhero.

“Spider-Noir” is based on Marvel Noir comics — a series that reimagines well-known Marvel characters in an alternative universe. The show will be released in both black-and-white and colour versions. Premiere date is yet to be released.

Martin Scorsese and Steven Spielberg will produce the series “Cape Fear”, based on John D. MacDonald’s novel “The Executioners”. In 1991, Scorsese directed a film based on the same book, starring Robert De Niro, Nick Nolte, Jessica Lange and Juliette Lewis. Also, the novel had previously been adapted into another film, “Cape Fear”, directed by J. Lee Thompson.

The plot centres on convicted criminal Max Cady, who served a lengthy prison sentence for rape and, upon his release, seeks revenge on the lawyer he believes was responsible for his conviction.

The lead roles in the new series will be played by Javier Bardem (“No Country for Old Men”), Amy Adams (“Enchanted”), Patrick Wilson (“Insidious”) and others.

Richard Gadd, creator of the acclaimed series “Baby Reindeer”, which was based on a real-life stalking case, became a global hit and even led to legal proceedings. Now he is preparing to release a new project. This time, he will appear on the screens as Ruben. His co-star will be Jamie Bell (“Skin”), who plays his childhood friend Niall. According to the plot, Ruben attends Niall’s wedding, triggering conflict and violence between them. Their meeting will send the characters back to their teenage years, with viewers invited to follow the evolution of their relationship over 40 years.
