On 21 February, Las Vegas Motor Speedway became the world capital of pyrotechnics. Valencian pyrotechnician Ricardo Caballer set a world record by preparing the largest daytime mascletà.
A mascletà is a traditional Valencian pyrotechnic show where the focus isn’t on light effects, but on sound. Caballer’s display kept the classic mascletà structure, with a gradual build-up, synchronised salvos and a final “earthquake”.
The show lasted more than 7 minutes and included 8,500 shots. This fully met the requirements for setting the record and entering Guinness World Records — at least five minutes of continuous activity and clearly defined smoke trails in the sky.

One of the show’s main highlights was a collaboration with the American company Pyrotecnico, which provided drones that drew a giant bat (a symbol of Valencia) and the US flag.
At the end of the performance, Caballer was presented with a certificate bearing the title “Largest daytime fireworks display in history”.
Very soon, Valencia will be hosting daily mascletàs to mark the city’s main festival, Las Fallas. You can view the mascletà and fireworks timetable via this link, and the full festival programme here.
