The Valencia Ministry of Health has announced a major update to the GVA+Salut app. Patients no longer need to carry their plastic SIP cards; displaying a QR code on their phone is now sufficient.
According to the regional health department, the new version of the app allows users to identify themselves within the healthcare system and collect prescriptions from pharmacies using a virtual SIP card. All pharmacies across the region have already been equipped to scan these QR codes.
Health official Bernardo Valdivieso stated that there are plans for this system to potentially be rolled out across the rest of Spain in the future.
In addition to the virtual card, the app now provides access to medical imaging. Users can view, download, and share the results of tests and scans, such as X-rays and ultrasounds. The app also allows patients to manage their digital medical profiles, including booking appointments and checking prescriptions, vaccination records, and medical history.
To access this sensitive data, identity verification via Clave, a digital certificate, or an electronic ID card (DNI) is required.
In the coming days, residents of the region will receive an SMS with instructions on how to update the app and use the new features. Users can also manually update the GVA+Salut app through their phone's app store.
