Valencia city council has announced a new street art route dedicated to Spanish and Valencian comic strips. The first murals featuring iconic characters will appear in the city's historic centre.
Street art is an important part of Valencia. Murals here are not merely decoration — they are part of the city's identity, particularly in the Carmen neighbourhood.
The new route will celebrate the history of Spanish comics. Building end walls will feature both classic characters — Zipi y Zape, Mortadelo y Filemón — and heroes from contemporary Spanish comics, including works by Valencian authors Paco Roca and Ana Peñas.
A QR code will accompany each image — scanning it will provide information about the work, its creator, and its historical context.
In the initial phase, murals will appear on the end walls of ten buildings in the historic centre. The project budget is €80,000. The route will start at the future Micharmut comic centre, from which it will gradually expand once the centre opens.
The exact start date for work will be announced once permission has been obtained from building owners.
