At CoffeeFest Madrid 2026, the second edition of the ranking “The World’s 100 Best Coffee Shops” was unveiled — the first global list dedicated exclusively to top specialty coffee spots.
The number one was Onyx Coffee Lab (USA). The Arkansas-based roastery topped the ranking thanks to its technical innovation and strong engagement with the professional coffee community. The team’s motto is “Never settle for just good”, and the brand is known for its commitment to solar energy and ongoing barista training.
Second place went to Tim Wendelboe in Oslo — the flagship café of one of the world’s most influential baristas and roasters. Third was Alquimia Coffee (Santa Ana, El Salvador), a micro-roastery working directly with farmers and promoting Salvadoran coffee on the global stage.
By sheer numbers, the United States leads the ranking with nine cafés, followed by Australia (seven) and Peru (five). Spain, Honduras and Taiwan each placed four cafés in the list.
Among Spanish entries, Barcelona’s Nomad Frutas Selectas ranked 16th overall. Judges highlighted the café’s strong focus on coffee beans and its in-house roasting. The menu features “fresh, well-balanced offerings”, while the space itself is described as “welcoming and functional — a place to meet, work or simply enjoy great coffee”.
Madrid’s Hola Coffee Lagasca secured 19th place. The café is the flagship of the Hola Coffee roasting brand and stands out for its minimalist yet vibrant design and friendly service. Guests can expect house-roasted coffee, a wide range of filter options and signature drinks.
Barcelona also appeared in the ranking with D·Origen Coffee Roasters, which placed 83rd. The café is located inside Casa Calvet, a historic building designed by Antoni Gaudí. Its interior features 3D-printed furniture made using recycled plastic bottles and spent coffee grounds.
The fourth Spanish café on the list was Kima Coffee from Málaga, which came in at number 93. According to the list, the café combines innovative technology with professional service in a modern, welcoming space, offering a distinctive experience both for seasoned coffee lovers and newcomers to the world of specialty coffee.
