Madrid is set to host a special programme dedicated to director Pedro Almodóvar. From 16 to 18 March, Cine Yelmo Ideal will run a screening series titled “Three Secret Days with Pedro Almodóvar”. Over three evenings, audiences will see one film per night from the director’s back catalogue — each title personally selected by Almodóvar.
Screenings begin at 20:00, but the film titles are being kept under wraps and will only be revealed right before each showing. Tickets cost €8.40 per session, or €7.40 for MovieYelmo members.
The programme will wrap up on 19 March with a special event: an early screening of Almodóvar’s new film Bitter Christmas ahead of its official release. The director will present the film in person. The screening starts at 19:45.
The cast are also expected to attend, including Bárbara Lennie, Leonardo Sbaraglia, Victoria Luengo, Patrick Criado and Milena Smit.
Bitter Christmas centres on Elsa, an advertising director whose mother dies during the December holidays. Struggling with grief, Elsa throws herself into work, effectively running from her emotions. When the strain triggers a panic attack, she decides to pause and escape to the island of Lanzarote with her friend Patricia, who also wants to get away from Madrid for a while.
The film’s official premiere is scheduled for 20 March. It is already being touted as one of the most anticipated events of the year in Spanish cinema.
Tickets for the screenings are available via this link.
