The travel search engine Skyscanner has named the Moroccan city of Nador one of the best value-for-money destinations of 2026. Located just 15 kilometres south of the Spanish enclave of Melilla, it barely features on standard tourist routes. Direct flights to Nador are available from Madrid and Barcelona.
Nador is situated in the Rif region and built around Mar Chica — a vast saltwater lagoon covering 115 square kilometres, part of the nature park of the same name. The city was founded by the Spanish in 1908 to serve the nearby Ouixane mining operations. Wide boulevards and a clearly planned street grid have survived from that era, giving Nador a modern character that is unusual among Moroccan cities. The town hall building also dates from the Spanish period.
Nador's main attraction is the Corniche de Nador, a promenade along the lagoon with views across its calm waters. On the far shore, a narrow spit stretches out with kilometres of beaches. In the city itself, the Grand Mosque of Nador and the Mohammed VI Mosque stand out. The city centre offers numerous markets, shops, and restaurants serving traditional Moroccan cuisine.
