Barcelona is set to complete construction of the Forum sea platform by 2031. Located between the Catalan capital and Sant Adrià de Besòs, the city has now introduced the final design of the project.
At its heart is a seven-kilometre waterfront promenade, extending the existing Passeig de la Mar Bella. The space will be up to 60 metres wide and open to the public, with shaded areas, benches, viewpoints, sports facilities and places to stop and enjoy the view. Popular with local running clubs, the area is expected to become even more appealing not only for athletes but also for other people once the redevelopment is complete.
The promenade will be divided into two main zones. One will feature a new football pitch, a beach, and a marine hub dedicated to water sports. Nearby, a large open plaza will be designed to host concerts, festivals and other city-wide events. The platform will be seamlessly woven into the existing coastal infrastructure, improving access between the city and the sea from Rambla de Prim and along the Ronda Litoral ring road.
City officials estimate that construction will be completed between 2030 and 2031, requiring annual investments of around €10 million over the next five years.
The Forum platform will mark the final chapter in Barcelona’s long-running transformation of its coastline — a process that began with the city’s preparations for the 1992 Olympic Games.
