Casting for extras has officially begun in Catalonia for a major new film project about The Beatles. Directed by Sam Mendes (American Beauty, Revolutionary Road, 1917), filming will take place across Barcelona, Salou, L'Hospitalet de Llobregat, and Badalona.
The project, produced by Sony Pictures, is unprecedented: four separate feature films, each told from the perspective of a different band member. The lead roles have already been cast with Paul Mescal as Paul McCartney, Barry Keoghan as Ringo Starr, Harris Dickinson as John Lennon, and Charlie Rowe as George Harrison.
Casting directors are looking for men and women aged 18 to 60 who can fit the 1960s aesthetic. Specifically, applicants should have no visible tattoos or overly modern hairstyles. A specialised casting call is out for scenes in Salou, where beach episodes will be filmed. For these, they are seeking women aged 18 to 35 who are comfortable filming in period-appropriate swimwear. Filming is scheduled for May and June, with a key date set for 8 June in Salou.
In Barcelona, a major filming location will be the Lluís Companys Olympic Stadium, which will be transformed to recreate the atmosphere of The Beatles' legendary American concerts. Various city districts will also undergo a visual transformation to match the 1960s era.
The casting is being managed by the Penélope Agency. These are paid roles, and people of all nationalities are welcome to apply as long as they meet the aesthetic requirements. To apply, candidates must register on the agency's website. Further details can be found via this link.
