Valencia is counting down to the return of Sunday trading. In the Valencian Community, shops are prohibited from opening on Sundays and public holidays, with the exception of eleven days a year, which are approved annually by the Ministry of Innovation, Industry, Trade and Tourism.
In 2026, the permitted days are 4 and 11 January; 3 and 5 April; 5 July; 15 August; 12 October; 29 November; and 13, 20, and 27 December.
However, shopping centres located in zones of high tourist activity (ZGAT) will be able to open every Sunday and public holiday from 15 June to 5 January, in accordance with the regional government's Law 3/2018. Excluded from this permission are 19 March, 9 October, 25 December, and 1 January, as well as 26 December if that day is declared a holiday due to the moving of Christmas.
In the authorities' view, extending shop opening hours responds to growing demand from local residents and tourists, for whom Sunday has become one of the busiest shopping days.
As a result, starting 15 June, Valencia's shopping centres will open on Sundays and public holidays from 11:00 AM to 9:00 PM, including rest areas, restaurants, and shops. Among them are Centro Comercial Arena, Nuevo Centro, El Saler, Aqua Multiespacio, and El Corte Inglés.
