Spanish singer Rosalía returned to the stage at Madrid’s Movistar Arena for the opening night of her LUX tour, drawing a crowd of over 15,000 spectators. This marked her first performance in the capital in four years. Within the opening minutes, Rosalía was unable to hold back tears as she took in the thunderous applause.
"I have been coming to Madrid for over ten years, and it is a city I love dearly," she told the audience.
The concert was a transformative spectacle. This new programme differs significantly from the singer's previous work. Industrial beats and reggaeton have been replaced by symphonic and spiritual melodies, with the concert structured as a kind of musical mass consisting of 24 tracks divided into four acts.
The show opened with the tracks Sexo, violencia y llantas and Reliquia, while one of the early highlights was Mio Cristo Piange Diamanti, performed in Italian.
The scenography drew particular acclaim. Featuring dozens of dancers, elaborate lighting effects, and a carefully considered aesthetic, the show's visual concept followed a journey from purity to darkness and back to light. Each of Rosalía’s looks reflected this transition, with costumes inspired by the works of Leonardo da Vinci, Francisco Goya, and the silhouette of the Venus de Milo.
One of the most talked-about moments was the performance of La Perla, featuring an unexpected appearance by the blogger Soy una pringada, who appeared in a makeshift confessional.
The concert was attended by a host of celebrity guests. Among them were actress Ester Expósito, one of the biggest stars of contemporary Spanish cinema, cult director Pedro Almodóvar, and American actor Ethan Hawke. Also spotted in the crowd were Spanish model Laura Escanes and Olympic badminton champion Carolina Marín.
The Madrid concert was merely the beginning of the Spanish leg of the tour. Rosalía has seven more performances scheduled across the Spanish capital and Barcelona.
