An original work by Pablo Picasso, valued at around €1 million, can be won for just €100 thanks to the charity lottery “1 Picasso por 100 euros.” The initiative is being held for the third time and aims to raise funds for Alzheimer’s disease research.
The grand prize will be the painting “Head of a Woman” (1941), created using gouache on paper measuring 38.9 × 25.4 cm. The work is provided from the collection of Opera Gallery, founded by gallerist Gilles Dyan.
All proceeds from ticket sales will go to Fondation Recherche Alzheimer — the largest French organisation funding Alzheimer’s research. The funds raised will be used to support a major scientific initiative aimed at strengthening collaboration between leading research centres in France, Europe, the United States, and Canada.
A total of 120,000 tickets are available, each priced at €100. They can be purchased on the official project website. Applications are open until April 14, 2026, and the drawing will take place on the same day at 18:00 at the Christie’s auction house in Paris. The event will be broadcast live online.
The winner will receive the original Picasso artwork; however, the organisers emphasise that even those who do not win will contribute to an important medical project. Today, around 35 million people worldwide suffer from Alzheimer’s disease, and by 2050, according to forecasts by the World Health Organisation, the number of patients could double.
The charity lottery has already proven its effectiveness. The previous two drawings helped raise more than €10 million for various humanitarian projects.
