"Make Science Great Again": Sánchez Trolls Trump with Viral Cycling Video

Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez has posted a new video to his Instagram Stories that has quickly gone viral. In the clip, he is seen riding a bicycle and saying, "Let’s light it up!".

Particular attention was drawn to Sánchez's red cap, which bears the slogan "Make Science Great Again"—an obvious play on Donald Trump’s "Make America Great Again". Additionally, the video features the song The Best of Both Worlds from the American Disney series Hannah Montana, starring Miley Cyrus, coinciding with the show's 20th anniversary celebrations.

Sánchez has been increasingly sharing informal content, ranging from recommendations of his favourite music to behind-the-scenes footage from the Moncloa Palace.

The post appeared amidst strained relations between the two world leaders. Trump has repeatedly criticised the policies of the Spanish government, while Sánchez has voiced opposition to the American leader’s foreign policy decisions and economic measures.

Social media users were divided over the video. Some took the post with a sense of humour and supported the Prime Minister, while others viewed it as an unnecessary provocation.

Some recalled an exchange between Sánchez and Cyrus back in 2020. At the time, the singer urged the Spanish leader to join the Global Citizen initiative to combat the effects of COVID-19, particularly in vulnerable communities. Sánchez replied that unity and a multilateral approach were the "only way" to ensure no one was left behind, noting Spain's participation in global programmes for equitable access to vaccines and treatment.
