On 3 April, the La Cotorra art space will open in Valencia at Editor Cabrerizo, 5—a new project from the creators of the namesake media outlet for expats. The venue will serve as a gallery, art hub, and lecture hall.
La Cotorra Gallery opens its inaugural season with two parallel projects united by the theme of the obvious and the hidden.
In the first hall, visitors will encounter Subtextura. The first version of this project was presented at the CultTech summit in Vienna. For the opening of La Cotorra Galeria, the artists of the Strawberry Kiss Sweet Trinity (SKST) collective are releasing Subtextura-II—a graphic series about the near future. In daylight, the works merge engineering blueprints, AI graphics, marketing, and pseudo-science into a "meta-collage" reflecting the fusion of technology, science, and commerce. However, in the dark under ultraviolet light, a hidden layer is revealed—ranging from critique to conspiracy theories—drawing the viewer into a game of visible and concealed, truth and fiction.
In the second hall, guests will immerse themselves in the world of Magic Realism by the Spanish artist Alex Alemany. The exhibition, titled Field of Contact, offers an opportunity to explore the artist's "White Series" (Serie blanca), specifically the "Gestational Period" cycle. By consciously stripping back visual means to a minimum, the artist invites the viewer into co-creation, masterfully playing with form and volume.

A native of Valencia, Alemany gained worldwide renown, with prestigious galleries from London to Paris including his works in their collections. His portfolio includes portraits of Woody Allen, Queen Elizabeth II, and members of the Spanish Royal Family. This exhibition showcases his most iconic works in the Magic Realism style.

Finally, a special surprise for visitors of the first season: two works by the legendary Aidan Salakhova are being shown to the public for the first time—the diptych The Guardians.
Salakhova’s works are often described as provocative, particularly challenging conservative political and religious institutions. Although Aidan has never aimed to be intentionally provocative, she is deeply interested in themes of the Orient and Eastern borders in the broadest sense. Art historians note that her sculptures, paintings, installations, and video art share much with the archaic, fabulously wealthy, despotic, and eroticised "East" imagined by Romantic poets like Gérard de Nerval, novelists like Gustave Flaubert, or painters like Jean-Auguste-Dominique Ingres—an East born of the European imagination.
The exhibitions will run from 3 April to 26 April.
La Cotorra Gallery Opening Hours: 10:00 – 20:00.
Closed: Sunday and Monday.
Address: Editor Cabrerizo, 5 bajo.
Admission: Free entry.
