Spain’s royal salaries are increased by 1.5%  in 2026, with King Felipe VI to earn 290,000 euros, 4,311 euros more than last year. Queen Letizia will receive 160,000 euros, an increase of 2,881 euros. The rises correspond to the boost approved for all public-sector employees.

The salaries are paid from the budget allocated to the Spanish monarchy, which remains unchanged at 8.4 million euros. Under the Constitution, the monarch himself decides how this sum is distributed. In addition to the King and Queen, their daughter Sofía will also receive an annual allowance — her income in 2026 will be about 131,000 euros, increasing by  2,438 euros compared to the last year.

A total of 3.8 million euros is allocated to staff salaries and the other expenditures of the Royal Household. The head of the Royal Household, Camilo Villarino, will earn 178,915 euros this year. The Secretary General, Mercedes Araújo, will receive 157,658 euros, and Eduardo Díez, head of the Military Office, will earn 135,859 euros.

The remaining funds will cover the day-to-day spending, including the maintenance of royal residences, travel, supplies and activities such as official receptions, lunches and visits.

Also, there is a 21.8% increase in the budget line for “current expenditure on goods and services”, which has reached 3.7 million euros. The rise is linked to the transfer of expenses previously classified under staff costs, including spending on communications and information technology projects, and research aimed at improving the public image of the monarchy.

Investment spending has exceeded 700,000 euros, an increase of 132%. This includes the purchase of vehicles and tools, furniture and equipment for information processing, along with other items described as necessary for the Royal Household, for its survival.
