In spring, Gran Canaria will become one of the key locations for filming season two of “A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms” — a new project in the “Game of Thrones” universe based on the works of George R. R. Martin. It has been confirmed that the main outdoor filming site will be the Presa de las Niñas dam in the municipality of Tejeda.
According to local sources, the campsite and recreation area by the reservoir have already been reserved for the film crew from February 23 to May 15. During this period, access for visitors will be restricted.
Preparatory work is already underway on site. Near the dam, crews are installing sets built mostly from pine logs and creating artificial gardens that will be used on camera. These elements will help adapt the island’s natural landscape to the fantasy atmosphere of the world from the “Tales of Dunk and Egg” cycle.
In the story, events unfold in a region suffering from a severe drought. That’s why the proximity of water and the ability to grow crops near the dam become an important part of the narrative.
Main filming with actors is expected to begin no earlier than April, while the preparation phase will continue until mid-May. It is still unknown how the Kingdom of Dorne will be portrayed in the series and whether another part of Gran Canaria or another Canary Island will be used to recreate that territory.
