From 15 May to 14 June 2026, during the summer examination period, five of Valencia's municipal libraries will switch to round-the-clock opening, seven days a week.
Earlier in the year, the city council launched a tender for security services to cover night-time library operations, but no company submitted a bid. The Cultural Initiatives Service then turned to its own staff, putting out a voluntary call for municipal employees willing to work night shifts and weekends. The response far exceeded expectations — more than 1,200 people signed up. While the libraries are being run by volunteers, the council is simultaneously preparing a new security services tender.
The five libraries operating without breaks are spread across different parts of the city: Biblioteca Carola Reig in Benimaclet, Biblioteca Azorín in Patraix, Biblioteca Eduard Escalante in Arrancapins, Biblioteca Joan de Timoneda in Beniferri, and Biblioteca Clara Santiró i Font in Sant Marcel·lí — Camí Real.
The libraries are also expected to open around the clock during the winter exam period, from 10 December 2026 to 10 January 2027.
