Spanish retail chain El Corte Inglés has announced price cuts on 1,300 everyday grocery basket products. The company stressed that this is not a temporary promotion, but a long-term decision.
The reductions affect high-demand products from leading brands across key categories, including deli meats, beverages, household cleaning products, personal hygiene items, and perfumes. The list also includes oil, milk, sausages, canned fish and vegetables, ready-made salads, baby food, vegetables and legumes, chocolate, coffee, soft drinks, wine, and pet food.
In April, El Corte Inglés froze prices on 300 staple food products for 90 days. The company now says it will review and lower prices on selected products every week.
On 2 April, Spain introduced a new regulation aimed at reducing food waste. The law could help shoppers save money. Supermarkets (with an area of more than 1,300 square metres) are now required to create special sections for “ugly” products — fruit and vegetables with irregular shapes or sizes. These items will be sold with discounts of up to 30%.
