Disney has selected the Valencian Community as a primary filming location for its new live-action adaptation of Rapunzel, which is currently in pre-production. Regional authorities announced the news, highlighting that the project has already generated significant interest both within Spain and internationally.
The film's director, Michael Gracey (The Greatest Showman), noted that Spain is perfectly suited for the project due to its landscapes and cultural diversity. "Spain provides us with the ideal setting to bring the story of Rapunzel to life," he said. Filming will take place at several sites across Valencia and at other locations throughout Spain.
The leading roles will be performed by Teagan Croft (Rapunzel), Milo Manheim (Flynn Rider), and Kathryn Hahn (Mother Gothel). The screenplay was written by Jennifer Kaytin Robinson (Thor: Love and Thunder), based on the 2010 animated film. A premiere date for the movie has yet to be announced.
According to Valencian authorities, the project will serve as both a cultural milestone and a major economic driver. It is expected to create direct and indirect jobs across various sectors, from hospitality and transport to technical services specialising in cinematic and audiovisual equipment. The region anticipates that participating in such a major international production will strengthen Valencia's position as a hub for the audiovisual industry and attract further investment.
