In Cantabria, at the very heart of the Picos de Europa mountain range, lies one of Spain’s most unusual thermal complexes — Balneario de La Hermida. The complex is located in the La Hermida gorge, between two mountain massifs, and is known for its thermal springs, where the water temperature reaches up to 60°C.
The thermal waters have been used here since the 18th century and are renowned for their healing properties. Over time, the site was rebuilt several times, and at the beginning of the 21st century, it was completely renovated and reopened to the public as a modern spa and balneological complex with a hotel.
One of the most striking places is the thermal cave, set in a natural environment with a waterfall. The water flows directly from the spring, and in some sections the temperature reaches up to 60°C. Guests can also enjoy a thermal complex featuring saunas, steam rooms, hot-and-cold plunge pools, hydrotherapy jets and a dynamic pool. Prices start at around €30 per person. Bookings can be made via the link.
The complex is located in the Liébana comarca, one of the most visited regions in Cantabria. Nearby are several major natural and cultural attractions, including the Fuente Dé cable car, the Altamira Cave and the Cabárceno Nature Park.
The site is one of the most impressive spa and balneological complexes in Spain and operates all year round.
