Alicante is set to become the most popular Spanish city for summer tourism in 2026, according to TripAdvisor. The Costa Blanca capital topped the Summer Travel Index 2026, beating better-known resorts in the province — Benidorm and Altea.
Among the main reasons for the growing interest in the city, TripAdvisor points above all to affordability. Despite being a provincial capital, prices here are noticeably lower than at the region's most heavily promoted tourist spots. Add to that a sunny climate, good transport links, excellent cuisine, and a rich cultural scene.
Alicante's beaches — San Juan, Postiguet, and Almadraba — are within walking distance of the historic centre and are known for their fine sand and clear Mediterranean water. It's worth setting aside at least a day to explore the city centre, where you'll find Santa Bárbara Castle with its panoramic views over the city and the picturesque Explanada promenade.
Those who enjoy boat trips can take an excursion to Tabarca Island, the smallest inhabited island in Spain. The Santa Cruz quarter, with its narrow streets and traditional architecture, is also well worth a visit.
