The Spanish Episcopal Conference has officially launched a fundraising campaign to cover the costs of Pope Leo XIV’s apostolic visit, scheduled for June 6–12. Organisers have emphasised that the trip will not be taxpayer-funded; instead, the bill will be footed entirely by the Church, the faithful, and private sponsors.
To facilitate donations, a dedicated website has been launched where supporters can contribute. Organisers have outlined five tiers of participation, ranging from €1,000 to over €1,000,000. The most prestigious level, dubbed “Grand Patron,” requires a contribution of at least €500,000 and offers an exclusive private audience with the Pope, along with access to closed-door events at the Vatican.
The second tier, “Patron” (€250,000 to €500,000), includes participation in group meetings with the Pontiff and prominent logo placement on official websites and publications. “Sponsors” (€50,000 to €250,000) earn the title of “Corporate Ambassadors,” while “Collaborators” (€10,000) and “Friends” (€1,000) receive symbolic recognition through official listings and certificates.
Beyond monetary donations, the Church is also accepting "in-kind" support—ranging from infrastructure and transportation to logistics equipment such as large screens, fencing, and technical maintenance.
Pope Leo XIV’s journey will kick off in Madrid with a high-profile meeting with King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia. A massive youth procession is also expected, potentially taking over the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium. On June 7, the feast of Corpus Christi, the Pope will lead a solemn Mass on Paseo de la Castellana, followed by a potential procession. The Madrid itinerary also includes academic meetings at El Escorial, talks with the government, and gatherings with clergy and seminarians.
The Pontiff will then travel to Barcelona to visit the Sagrada Família—a visit timed to coincide with the centenary of Antoni Gaudí’s death and the inauguration of the Tower of Jesus Christ. The trip will conclude in the Canary Islands, where the Pope is scheduled to meet with migrants and social organisations.
While the total price tag for the visit has not yet been disclosed, organisers have promised full transparency regarding all funds raised.
