The majority of Spanish residents do not support the U.S. and Israeli military operation against Iran. According to a DYM survey conducted for 20minutos, 73% of respondents oppose the attacks, while only 12.6% approve of the actions taken by the U.S. and Israel.
The poll indicates that Spanish society is broadly set against escalation. These sentiments align with the official position of the Spanish government and several other European nations, which advocate for a diplomatic resolution to the conflict and a cessation of hostilities.
Meanwhile, the situation is unfolding against the backdrop of statements from Donald Trump, who claims that the U.S. has "already won the war" and is on the path to an agreement with Tehran. Iranian authorities, however, maintain that no such agreement exists or will exist.
Among supporters of the far-right Vox party, 36.8% approve of the U.S. and Israeli actions. In contrast, 68.5% of People's Party (PP) voters are opposed, as are 82.7% of Spanish Socialist Workers' Party (PSOE) supporters and 94.8% of voters from the left-wing Sumar platform. Generally, the further left the political stance, the higher the level of rejection of the military operation.
When asked about the root cause of the conflict, respondents answered as follows:
Regarding who initiated the operation, 39.1% of respondents pointed to Donald Trump, 22.1% to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, and 31.1% believe the decision was joint. Differences across political parties are also notable: voters of PSOE (42.8%), Vox (41.3%), and Sumar (31.7%) believe the U.S. President was the primary initiator. On the other hand, 38.9% of PP voters believe the decision was made jointly by Trump and Netanyahu.
Interestingly, the level of rejection toward the current operation is significantly higher than the reaction to U.S. actions in Venezuela previously—at that time, they were condemned by approximately 50% of Spaniards.
Furthermore, more than 80% of Spaniards are concerned about Trump's policies, with 50.1% stating they are "very concerned." Only 5.2% of respondents admitted to feeling hopeful about his presidency, while about 10.6% remained neutral. The level of anxiety has risen sharply—in January 2025, only 54.6% of Spaniards expressed alarm over the U.S. President's actions.
This surge in concern is linked to U.S. foreign policy moves, including the conflicts in Iran and Venezuela, threats of trade tariffs against the EU, and statements regarding the acquisition of Greenland.
