The Hungarian low-cost carrier Wizz Air will open its first base in Spain at Manises airport this November. Two of the airline's aircraft will now be stationed in Valencia. At the same time, the airline announced seven new routes from Valencia and an expansion of its Milan service.
Of the seven new destinations, five are domestic and two international. Wizz Air's planes will fly from Valencia to northern Spain (Asturias, Santiago de Compostela, Santander, Bilbao) and to the Balearic Islands (Palma de Mallorca). Among the international destinations, Romania's Brașov and Italy's Naples will be added. In addition, the Valencia–Milan Malpensa route will run twice a day instead of once.
By November, when the new base becomes operational, Wizz Air will be flying from Manises on 23 routes to eight countries. The base itself won't open until November 2, but tickets for the seven new destinations (from 14.99 euros) are already on sale.
Wizz Air has operated in Valencia since 2007. The company expects the new base to boost its capacity by 76% over the year, to 3.6 million seats sold. This is meant to narrow the gap with Ryanair — the leader in low-cost travel in Spain and in Valencia, which closed out 2025 with 5.3 million tickets sold.
"Spain used to be a secondary destination for us. After the pandemic, demand grew sharply, and for 2026 we're expecting 15 million passengers. Our bet on Spain is unambiguous — it's one of the markets where we're growing fastest," said Silvia Mosquera, the company's chief commercial officer. At the presentation, the company also announced the opening of a second Wizz Air base in Madrid: there, the airline will station two more aircraft and launch four new routes.
