Valencia has completed construction of a new municipal sports centre in the Ruzafa district. It has been housed in an industrial building from 1917 on the grounds of Parc Central. The centre will open on September 1. Total investment in the project came to 7.5 million euros, of which 3 million came from European funds.
The complex spans two floors. The first floor will house a heated pool, a spa, a sauna, a Turkish bath, a sports court, and a separate gym. On the second floor, two additional rooms will open — for strength training and group classes — as well as the centre's administrative offices. The neighbouring building will serve as the main entrance to the complex and will also house a café.
Before the official opening in September, the city hall will hold open days and trial classes so that Ruzafa residents can get to know the complex in advance and try out its services.
Construction began in June 2023, but the original budget wasn't enough. City hall added another 1.8 million euros to complete the work. The delay and the rise in costs were attributed to the project's technical complexity, due to the industrial building's protected heritage status.
By the end of the year, Valencia's authorities plan to open another sports centre — in the Sant Isidre district.
