Young Sherlock
Cádiz
In 2025 alone, Valencia received 135 full-scale productions — feature films, series, major television formats, and advertising campaigns. La Cotorra has gathered some of the most striking Spanish locations that you can spot on screen.
Cádiz

The 2026 series is yet another Guy Ritchie take on the world's greatest detective. A 19-year-old Sherlock at Oxford investigates his first case, which spirals into a global conspiracy. Cádiz, dressed up with vintage signage for the shoot, doubles as both a Paris gripped by revolution and a Constantinople of the same era.
Somiedo Natural Park (Parque Natural de Somiedo, Asturias)

The film is due to premiere on 20 November 2026. Directed by Francis Lawrence, this prequel covers the 50th Hunger Games (the Second Quarter Quell), featuring a young Haymitch Abernathy. One of the most anticipated blockbusters of 2026 is a return to the franchise's origins. The Somiedo Natural Park in Asturias served as the main arena for the new Hunger Games, with the production drawing in an impressively large number of extras.
Mallorca

The 2025 series was created by Ronan Bennett, with Guy Ritchie again among the directors. Starring Tom Hardy, Helen Mirren, and Pierce Brosnan. A hard-edged crime drama about a war between two powerful criminal families and the "fixer" trying to keep the peace. The fortress villa La Fortalesa in Pollença and other exclusive villas convey the atmosphere of a sealed world of elite crime and mafia power.
Tenerife, Canary Islands

A thriller by Marc Webb starring Johnny Depp and Penélope Cruz, expected to be released in the second half of 2026. A bartender on a cruise ship meets a mysterious "day drinker" — and their lives become entangled. Tenerife served as the main location for the maritime, coastal, and atmospheric scenes.
Rambla de Barrachina, Teruel

Olivier Laxe's film was Spain's Oscar submission for 2025. A dramatic story with thriller elements, opening with a large-scale rave in the desert. Rambla de Barrachina in the province of Teruel is a canyon known as "Spain's Colorado." The red canyon was used for the opening rave scene, where the echo of music bouncing off the canyon walls made the location a character in its own right.
Belchite, Zaragoza

The 2025–2026 third season of the indestructible franchise continues Daryl's adventures in a post-apocalyptic world. The ruins of the old town destroyed during the Civil War became a ghostly settlement housing a colony of lepers.
Getaria, Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Bilbao Airport

A post-apocalyptic sci-fi series (2025) from Breaking Bad creator Vince Gilligan. The Hotel Iturregi on the Basque coast was used for scenes of the survivors' meeting. Bilbao Airport also featured in the production.
Alcázar de Sevilla

The legendary series, a significant portion of which was filmed in Spain. Fans still make dedicated pilgrimages to every filming location (Peñíscola, for instance). Dorne is right here: the famous gardens and the Mercury Pool can be seen by anyone who visits.
Plaza de España, Sevilla

A timeless classic from George Lucas. The square and its arcades were used as Theed — the capital of the planet Naboo. A perfect example of how Spanish architecture slots seamlessly into science fiction.
City of Arts and Sciences, Valencia

An iconic location that features in almost every space blockbuster. Andor is a political thriller set in the Star Wars universe, produced by Disney+ with Tony Gilroy as showrunner. The season received 5 Emmy wins and 14 nominations in 2025. The unique architectural complex designed by Calatrava allowed the thriller to be shot with minimal dependence on CGI.
