The Spanish passport has solidified its position as one of the most powerful travel documents on the planet. According to the VisaGuide Passport Index data for March 2026, it ranked fourth globally, securing a score of 90.6 points. The ranking confirms that Spanish citizens can now enjoy visa-free entry to 160 countries.
Singapore holds the top spot in this year’s index with a score of 91 points. France and Finland follow closely in second and third, respectively, while Norway completes the top five. This elite group highlights the dominance of European and Singaporean diplomacy in global mobility.
The VisaGuide.World ranking compares 199 countries and territories using a comprehensive methodology. Unlike other indices, it doesn't just count the number of destinations; it also weighs the difficulty of obtaining entry, such as whether a visa is required on arrival, an e-visa is available, or if entry is completely unrestricted.
The core of this ranking is a proprietary formula known as the Destination Significance Score (DSS). This score evaluates each destination based on several key factors:
Because each country has a unique DSS value, gaining visa-free access to a high-ranking nation (like the US or Japan) grants a passport more "value" in the index than access to a country with a lower DSS. This nuanced approach reflects the real-world utility of a passport for global citizens and international investors alike.
