Buying a home by the sea for 100,000 euros seems like an impossible task in Spain. Nevertheless, in some coastal towns, it's still possible to buy a mid-sized home in peaceful surroundings on this budget. The real estate portal Fotocasa has compiled a list of such places.

The best value is offered by Burela, in the province of Lugo. It's one of the largest fishing ports on the Cantabrian coast. At an average price of 901 euros per square meter, 100,000 euros here can buy around 111 square meters of living space.

Nearby is Cariño, in the province of A Coruña, by the Serra da Capelada mountain range, not far from San Andrés de Teixido and Cape Ortegal. The average price is 1,029 euros per square meter, which allows you to buy around 97 square meters.

Another option is A Guarda, in the province of Pontevedra, at the mouth of the Miño River near the border with Portugal, combining historical heritage, beaches, and fishing. The average price is 1,372 euros per square meter, around 73 square meters for 100,000 euros.

Although most of the best-value options are concentrated in Galicia, the Mediterranean also offers affordable options. The town of Adra, in the province of Almería, is associated with fishing and intensive agriculture. It's a place with an active life year-round and a more peaceful atmosphere than in the neighbouring tourist zones. The average price here is around 1,406 euros per square meter, so for 100,000 euros you can buy a home of around 70 square meters.

In Nules, in the province of Castellón, with a beach more than five kilometres long and moderate urban development, the average price is 1,403 euros per square meter. For 100,000 euros, a home of around 71 square meters would be available.

Rounding out the list is Viveiro, on the coast of the province of Lugo — with the highest prices in the selection, but still more affordable than many of Spain's tourist destinations. Its historic centre, the Covas and Area beaches, and the Monte San Roque natural area make the municipality one of the most attractive in the north of the peninsula. The average price is 1,673 euros per square meter, around 60 square meters for 100,000 euros.

In addition to their affordable prices, these municipalities offer what buyers increasingly value — life by the sea without the tourists. What's mostly for sale here is move-in-ready second-hand housing, apartments with terraces, and properties within walking distance of the beach.
