The British organisation UK Post Office conducted an analysis of travel costs across Europe and compiled a ranking of the most affordable and most expensive destinations. The calculations include food and drinks, round-trip airport transfers, entrance tickets to top attractions, and city public transport passes.
Most Affordable Cities
The ranking leader is Sarajevo (Bosnia and Herzegovina). A trip will cost an average of €287 per person. It is followed by Bucharest (€299) and Tirana (€298). Belgrade (€307) and Trenčín, Slovakia (€315) round out the top five.
Other affordable destinations include Riga (€322), Lille (€334), Vilnius (€334), Strasbourg (€369), and Podgorica (€384).
Most Expensive Cities
Oslo has been named the most expensive city in Europe. A trip to the Norwegian capital costs an average of €850. It is followed by Copenhagen (€777) and Edinburgh (€773). Next come Geneva (€746) and Barcelona (€742), making it the first Spanish city on the list of the most expensive destinations.
Dublin took sixth place (€707), followed by Amsterdam (€705), Cork, Ireland (€697), Venice (€672), and Madrid (€672), rounding out the top ten.
