A new wave of hot weather is sweeping across Spain. Starting Monday, temperatures in many regions will rise to levels more characteristic of late spring or early summer. In some cities, the air will warm up to 34°C, potentially setting new records for the month of April.
According to data from Aemet and the portal Meteored, the cause is a stable anticyclone over the Iberian Peninsula combined with a warm subtropical air mass arriving from North Africa. Southerly winds will bring a sharp temperature spike across nearly the entire country.
The highest temperatures are expected in the inland regions and the south of Spain. Early in the week, the 28–30°C mark will be surpassed in Extremadura and the Guadalquivir Valley. Tuesday is expected to be particularly intense, with many areas in the centre and south exceeding 30°C.
In the cities of Seville and Córdoba, thermometers could approach 34°C. Severe heat is also forecast for parts of Castilla-La Mancha. Unusually high values are anticipated in the Ebro Valley as well; in Zaragoza and Lleida, temperatures may exceed 32°C, bringing these cities close to their historical April maximums.
The central part of the country will not be spared. Madrid, Valladolid, Toledo, and Ciudad Real are also likely to see figures approaching monthly records.
While the warmth will persist through the middle of the week, coastal areas along the Mediterranean and the Cantabrian Sea will experience more moderate temperatures. Forecasters estimate that April 2026 could go down as one of the hottest Aprils in Spain in recent decades.
